Proven Submarine Technology
Inside a submarine you need a QUIET and EFFICIENT motor. Believe it or not, but the grandfather of the Striatech Motor can be found inside an old nuclear submarine from the 70s. The technology used did not by any means include our system’s unmatched controllability, but it’s a testimony to its foundational capabilities. If a motor was good for navigating under the polar ice for months, while being silent and trouble-free, you can bet it will complement virtually any application. More than two decades ago we utilized the know-how behind this technology, threw it into our think-tank and dramatically improved these motors by equipping them with intuition. Off The Beaten Path
The motor industry has been a stagnant field in the last century but with a trend towards intelligent technology, unsophisticated induction motors will soon become a thing of the past. Striatech’s team of engineers has always appreciated the excitement that comes with true innovation. Hence, it is no surprise that our tech pioneers decided to abandon the common motor dinosaurs to dedicate their ideas to more promising technologies over two decades ago.
Namely, the long misunderstood and underrated Switched Reluctance (SR) Technology! SR technology is time-tested. Invented in the 19th century SR struggled to find acceptance on the market as it displayed several flaws paid to its uncontrollability.
Along came Striatech, in search for a versatile and reliable variable speed drive for a lathe. Jointly with great talent from partner Universities as well as adapted technical know-how that our engineers acquired globally our team of nerds sat down and developed a proper control system to guarantee high torque at low speeds to eradicate all of SRs issues and boost it into a superior motor solution to re-invent woodturning.
It did not take long for our team to recognize that the great symbiosis that the new motor and controller system formed is a game-changer that would provide a large array of industries with one of the quietest, most reliable, and most intelligent motor systems ever developed.
The Striatech Motor and Controller
A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN
Not your typical motor
The Striatech motor and controller have a body and brain relationship — the motor handles the movement, while the controller makes the decisions. But unlike similar motors, this one provides feedback to the controller to allow it to make changes based on the current conditions. Added load on the spindle sends a signal to the controller, which will then compensate for the speed that has been lost. Thus, the motor can maintain a constant speed despite its conditions.
A feedback loop senses the motor’s surroundings to actively monitor conditions and performance, including how much power is actually drawn from the socket to the application at any time to complete the task on the spindle. Since it works by magnetic attraction, the speed or position of the shaft is unimportant to its torque.
In comparison, a regular ‘dumb’ AC or DC motor is not able to make a connection between the power supplied and the actual spindle requirements. All actions of the Striatech motor are controlled by a micro-computer, using a digital display and soft control pad.
As for the motor itself, SR motors have a uniquely simple construction with very few moving parts. Rarely do these motors fail! This durability is amplified by the controller’s leverage on the motor. The controller’s influence on the motor’s operation prevents it from heating up and hence, wear and tear on components.

Our warranty policy provides a ten-year limited warranty on your motor and two-year limited warranty on all electronics. Exclusions include wear items such as bearings, etc. Please include proof of purchase with your warranty claim.
